Dartford Crossing closure dates during May and June 2025

An exact date for the next full closure of the QEII Bridge at the Dartford Crossing has now been set as a new batch of tunnel closures also begins. From this week, National Highways will be conducting scheduled maintenance within the east tunnel at the busy crossing between Kent and Essex.

Closures of the tunnel will take place on various weeknights across the coming fortnight which will impact northbound A282 and M25 journeys. At times when the east tunnel is closed, vehicles less than 4.8m in height will be diverted via the west tunnel, which is the shorter of the two.

There will be no access for vehicles in excess of this height during the closures of the east tunnel and a separate diversion will be in effect via the M25 clockwise. Re-waterproofing works are planned for the A282 between Junction 1a and Junction 2 across two upcoming weekends.

Diversion details have been confirmed as a key bridge in Dartford is set for two weeks of overnight closures. The bridge that carries the B2500 Watling Street directly over the A282 will shut nightly between Tuesday, May 27 and Saturday, May 31.

On each of these nights, the bridge will be closed in both directions from 10pm until 6am the following morning. The route will then shut again on the nights between Monday, June 2 and Saturday, June 7.

    • Scheduled coaches: Should not serve these stops between 08:00 to 20:00 daily– alternative stops depending on line of route: Bayswater Road stop A or Portman Street stop M.
    • Tour buses: Can continue to serve the open stops in each phase but must keep dwell times to an absolute minimum
