Weekend Travel Advice – 2 to 6th May 2025 (including VE Day Celebrations )

Thursday 1 until Sunday 4 May

O2 Arena

From 18:30 until 22:30 each evening, the O2 Arena will host music events. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after each event.

Friday 2 May

Central London

From 22:00 on Friday until 10:00 the following morning, there will be overnight road closures around Whitehall for VE Day 80 rehearsals.

From 2000 hours on the above date Parliament Square, Millbank, Bridge Street, Parliament Street, Whitehall, and Trafalgar Square will be closed to facilitate rehearsal for the VE 80 Parade.
When the roads reopen a lane restriction will remain in place on the south and east sides of Parliament Square.

Saturday 3 May

Central London

On the above date Parliament Square will be closed whist ramps are built from the grass to the road surface.
Once completed there will be a partial lane closure of the inner lane.

To facilitate the parade there will be extensive road closures.
From 2000 hours Millbank, Victoria Street, Parliament Square, Bridge Street, parliament Street, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, Strand, Charing Cross Road, and Pall Mall will be closed to all traffic.

From 10:30 until 12:00, a march will take place from Millbank to Temple Place via Parliament Square, Whitehall, Horse Guards Avenue and Embankment. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected.

Twickenham Stadium

From 12:00 until 20:00, Twickenham Stadium will host rugby matches, with kick offs at 14:00 and 16:45. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after each match, with local road closures in place around the stadium.

Tower Bridge

From 15:00 until 18:00, a circular march will take place across Tower Bridge. Large crowds are expected.

London Stadium

From 13:00 until 18:30, London Stadium will host a football match, with kick off at 15:00. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after the match, with local road closures in place around the stadium.

Sunday 4 May

Central London

On the above date a parade marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day will be taking place. The parade will form up on Parliament Square and march to Buckingham Palace via Parliament Street, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, The Mall to Queen Victoria Memorial for a fly past.

To facilitate the parade there will be extensive road closures.
From 2000 hours Millbank, Victoria Street, Parliament Square, Bridge Street, parliament Street, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, Strand, Charing Cross Road, and Pall Mall will be closed to all traffic.
From 0700 hours Piccadilly will be closed to all traffic.
In addition to the road closures there may be a short hold at Hyde Park Corner during the fly past.

From 12:00 until 15:00, a march will take place from Langham Street to Oxford Circus. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

From 15:00 until 19:00, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host a football match, with kick off at 14:15. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after the match, with local road closures in place around the stadium.

Stamford Bridge

From 12:30 until 17:00, Stamford Bridge will host a football match, with kick off at 14:00. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after the match, with local road closures in place around the stadium.
