Westminster Bridge November and December 2021

Permanent protective barriers are currently being installed on Westminster Bridge to make it safer for people walking and cycling.

The work will continue until late January 2022, with some overnight finishing works continuing into early February. Whilst this is going on there will be only one lane in each direction for all traffic. This will cause delays, especially at busy times.

Specifically, from Monday 22 November until Thursday 9 December, coaches will not be able to turn right from Westminster Bridge on to Victoria Embankment. A signed diversion will be in place around Parliament Square and Bridge Street. Roads in surrounding areas will be busier than usual. TfL are advising coach operators to use other routes to cross the river, including Vauxhall Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge.

In addition, there will be a number of overnight closures from 21:00 until 05:00 the following day, with traffic diverted to use Waterloo Bridge (northbound) and Vauxhall Bridge (southbound). Dates in 2021 are as follows:

  • Monday 22 November
  • Friday 10 December
  • Sunday 19 December
